Ancaster is a picturesque and historic community located on the Niagara Escarpment, within the greater Hamilton area. It is one of the oldest communities in Canada and was once the largest industrial centre in the country due in large part to its easily accessible water power located at the juncture of already existing historical trading route.

The Niagara Escarpment runs through the community. Along much of the escarpment lies the Dundas Valley Conservation Area, a World Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and one of southern Ontario’s natural treasures. Highlights of the conservation area include Carolinian forests, meadows, cold-water streams, stunning geological formations, and a variety of plants, birds, and wildlife.

Rural areas also feature Tiffany Falls Conservation Area and numerous hiking trails including the Heritage and Bruce Trails.

Today, Ancaster is an affluent town with a historical village at its core and a population of over 40,000. Getting Around

Transportation in Ancaster is easiest by car, but the town is accessible by Hamilton’s public transit agency, Hamilton Street Railway (HSR).

Ancaster is generally considered to be a bedroom community, with the majority of residents working in downtown Hamilton, or the neighbouring cities of Brantford, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, or Toronto.
